For week 4 of the Roast! West Coast podcast I welcome Siri Simran Khalsa, Director of Coffee at Lofty Coffee in Encinitas, California to the show. Siri and I suffered through about a million technical glitches, but we made it! Siri’s passion for coffee, where it comes from, how it is made and how it helps create connections between people really shines through in this interview. I was inspired just listening to her tell her story, and while editing I even got a little melancholy thinking about the random connections that have been missed during the pandemic.
That might be the hardest puzzle piece right now. How do we continue to give our guests really amazing service and keep our team safe and make everyone feel comfortable?

In addition to the coffee roasting, Lofty Coffee is also an all-from-scratch bakery with cafes all over North County. Their popular limited edition seasonal West Coast Winter Blend is available now. The tasting notes include: Sugar Plumb, Cranberry, Fudge Brownie & Pecan Brittle-so…yeah…I’ll be ordering that.

Agronomy [uh-gron-uh-mee]: the science of soil management and the production of field crops.
Agronomist: A scientist who works in the field of agriculture, and acts as the go-between for farmers and crop researchers.
Agronomists have a wide range of work, but their role is best summed up as a “crop doctor.” They are concerned with the health and well-being of crops used for food production, fuel, and land reclamation.
