Leap Coffee: Bonus Episode
A big news follow up with Breanna Briggs from Leap Coffee
A big news follow up with Breanna Briggs from Leap Coffee
“Our Dearest Leap Fam, it comes with heavy hearts…”
You never want to see that phrase on a social media post coming from a local coffee shop. This past year has been a wild ride for the hospitality industry. I mean it usually is, but this year everything was heightened with an impending sense of pandemic dread. Normally the ride is more fun.
For a few weeks the Leap Coffee instagram had been been dropping some cryptic messages about big news and changes a foot. Changes? I just learned about Leap last year! It turns out that the cryptic-ness wasn’t to throw anyone off the trail, but because even the team at Leap wasn’t sure how things were going to turn out. Eventually, they broke the news. After five years, they would be closing their cafe in Carlsbad, and moving their roastery.

But don’t panic. This isn’t a sad story. Leap’s Director of Coffee, Bre Briggs, was one of the great guests on Season One of the Roast! West Coast podcast. You can listen to that first interview right here. I asked if she’d come back on for a special bonus episode to talk about what happened with their lease, what the plan is moving forward (hint: new roastery location, cafe in the works) and most importantly, how she feels about it all.
We also talked about Coca-Cola Coffee in a can. Not a joke.
If you want to try some of Leap’s coffee head to www.leap.coffee to place an order. I’ve had the Cheers! & Costa Rica which were both great. I’m partial to the Cheers! blend myself. Leap does offer free shipping over $25 so it pays to buy that second bag.
This promo isn’t just for Roast! listeners, but I still wanted you to know! Ironsmith Coffee Roasters is giving away a Ratio Six home coffee brewer. Get entered to win automatically when you buy a bag of coffee beans before February 15th. I ordered a bag of Indo Gold, and am crossing my fingers.

Listen to the show on these platforms!
