An interview with Steve Rayle.
It’s finally here! The very first episode of Roast! West Coast is live and ready for you to listen too on you favorite podcast platform. Links to all of the different places to listen online are below.
In Episode One I wanted to talk to Steve Rayle, founder and owner of Zumbar Coffee & Tea.* Their roastery is in Sorrento Valley and they have a sister cafe in Cardiff looking out at the Cardiff Kook and the Pacific Ocean.
I would want to impart that we're really a coffee company with an approach towards quality…it's really finding ways all the way through the process from sourcing to roasting to making espresso or brewing coffee. It's a continual focus on “how can we do this better?” • Steve Rayle, Zumbar Coffee & Tea
There are a lot of reasons Roast! West Coast exists, but one of them is Zumbar’s Hummingbird Roast coffee. When the pandemic first hit, and grocery shopping was perilous I went looking for local roasters who delivered. Zumbar, already one of my favorite go to spots on a bike ride, was there for me with two pound bags and free shipping. While reading all the coffee details on zumbarcoffee.com I was learning all kinds of things about the roaster, and the idea of Roast! West Coast-a show just as much about entrepreneurship as it is coffee-was hatched.
Steve will talk about what inspired him to start Zumbar Coffee & Tea way back in 2003, how much goes into keeping his machinery working, what inspires their coffee styles and much more. If you’re a paid subscriber to the Roast! West Coast newsletter, you’ll be getting another newsletter with the transcript from the show. You still have a few days to get 20% off this newsletter forever.
As a special treat for listeners of the Roast! West Coast podcast Steve has offered a 15% discount on bags of beans ordered online. Just enter the promo code: ROAST15 at checkout.
I’m looking forward to bringing you the stories of North County San Diego’s coffee roasters. Thanks for reading, listening and sharing Roast! West Coast.
