Coffee Smarter: Week 8
Let's Get Fancy (Drinks)!
Let's Get Fancy (Drinks)!
This week I ask Chris O’Brien, founder of Coffee Cycle & my own personal coffee information escalator to to explain to me what we’re actually drinking when we order a latte or cappuccino or Americano. How is one different from the other? Who are these people who order Flat White’s?
If you’re reading this we have officially tipped over into 2021. Whoo! We did it! Everything is back to nor—…What’s that? Things are still crazy? Hmmm. Now what? I’m sure we’ll figure it out.
One of the lessons I learned in 2020 was to really appreciate little luxuries like flannel sheets when it is cold, hummingbirds actually coming to our feeder to keep us company, time to cook meals, and even fancy coffee drinks. I’m a “Coffee. Medium. Black. Please,” kind of guy, but early on in the pandemic I found myself adding honey or cream or peppermint to my drinks in the morning just to mix it up.
So my coffee resolution for 2020 (besides drinking more good coffees) is to stop being so afraid. Specifically, afraid of ordering a mocha cappuccino or a double espresso honey and magic infused latte. You’re all witnesses.

We teamed up with Coffee Cycle to buy some fancy coffee for local health care workers that are picking up coffees from the shop including Nurse Liz! In hopes of keeping that going I’m offering 30% off subscriptions to a full year of Roast! West Coast’s premium content plus a copy of my fiction novella “Eli & Jane.”

“Eli & Jane” features some pretty great coffee drinking scenes, and for every subscriber (like the awesome Anne!) I’ll buy more coffees for more healthcare workers through the end of the year. Thanks for your support of this show, your own local healthcare teams and coffee roasters.

Coffee Cycle, is a fantastic coffee shop in Pacific Beach, San Diego, and Chris is one of the smarter coffee people I’ve ever had the chance to be around. He has graciously agreed to answer my questions about coffee (sometimes for the third or even fourth time) every week during Season 1 of Roast! West Coast. Check back for Coffee Smarter segments every Friday.
Thanks for reading, listening and sharing Roast! West Coast, and be sure to drink good coffee.
