Check out Austin, TX-based roaster Super Thing’s Power Blend. Shout out to Cafe Domestique in Madison, WI, for making me the best cup of coffee I had all summer.

Cris likes a little cup.
Don’t double grind your beans when hand grinding EVER! The grinds break apart in different shapes, and you’ll end up with a very inconsistent grind.
The pace at which you rotate the grind crank arm may help you keep your grinding momentum but probably not benefit—or hurt—your coffee at all.

Hand Grinders that Chris recommends:
The Porlex - ($84) I like the Tall Grinder II. It is durable, simple-to-use, and easy to pack for travel. The Mini Grinder II is identical…only…umm…mini.
1ZPresso - They have a really easy to rotate grind size feature and some pretty sharp looking design. They also have a lot of variations to meet your needs and pricepoints.

Aergrind by Knock - ($163) - Check out the unboxing video below. Currently sold out on their website.
Commandante® is a German brand of coffee grinders that are oft considered the rock stars of the hand grinding community…I just made that up, but it seems to be true if the crowds around their industry booths are any indicator.
Their X25 TRAILMASTER is an extra durable grinding version designed for use in the outdoors, and most importantly, it looks super cool. The quality, design, and reputation come with a cost. Commandante® hand grinders range in price from $230-350.

Concrete is a major waste product around the world. Engineers from RMIT University in Australia have been working on creating a more sustainable concrete hybrid by using spent coffee grounds. Watch their video or learn more here.
