Hey everyone. Coffee Smarter is off this week in terms of releasing a new episode, but this show is a spin-off of the Roast! West Coast coffee podcast. The following is a conversation Chris O’Brien, Founder of Coffee Cycle Roasting in Pacific Beach, San Diego, California, and I had on the importance of cleaning your at-home brewers and grinders and coffee equipment. Chris talked about these grinder cleaning tablets during the show: Urnex Grindz Coffee Grinder Cleaning Tablets. I was glad to see that according to the brand, the tablets are “Formulated from all-natural, plant-based ingredients. Does not contain phosphates. All ingredients are food safe.”
While I was online, I also found this coffee machine descaler cleaner which seemed relevant to include here.
The movie with Christian Slater was called Hard Rain, not Hard Water, and it also starred Morgan Freeman, Dennis Quaid, and Minnie Driver. I warn you now if you watch this trailer, you’ll be downloading this film asap.

Single Dosing: The measuring and grinding of a single serving of coffee beans, a single dose. The grinding is done right before brewing to ensure freshness.
Purge Beans: Beans that are run through the grinder for the purpose of pushing old, stale grinds and/or debris out from inside the machine to ensure the channel to the catcher is clean and the coffee grinds being brewed are fresh.
